A Note About the ASA Softball Age Requirements . . .

The calendar date the American Softball Association (ASA) uses to determine eligibility for girls’ fastpitch softball teams, January 1, creates issues for many of our players, parents, coaches and teams because it can often divide classmates and force them to play at different levels.

Once again in 2024, the park district will attempt to allow kids to play with their classmates whenever possible.

  • Please remember that regardless of the class in school, players born prior to the Jan. 1 deadline cannot play down a level.  For example, a 4th grader who turns 11 prior to Jan. 1, 2024, must move up to the 12U level, even though many of her classmates may still be eligible at the 10U level.
  • Please also note that the park district reserves the right to enforce the Jan. 1 deadline if the need arises.  For example, we may not be able to move all our 5th grade girls up to the 12U level in a given season because doing so may not leave enough players left to field a 10U team that season.

Communication will be the key and we’ll do everything we can to keep our players, parents and coaches notified and up to date.

10 & Under Softball

The park district will sponsor at least one 10U team in the Red River Valley Youth Softball League for the summer season.

League games will start in early June.  Game dates and times will be announced as soon as that information becomes available.

Players who turn 11 years of age after January 1, 2024, are eligible to play 10U softball.

Coaches:  TBA

Dates:  Monday through Thursday, late May through mid-July.

Times:  TBA

Location:  Practices at Kost Field (Turf), games at various sites.

Equipment:  Players need their own gloves and must wear rubber-spiked shoes.  All other game and practice equipment will be provided.

Fee:  $85

12 & Under Softball

Pre-season practice will begin in late May and league games will begin in early June.  Game dates and times will be announced as soon as they become available.

Players who turn 13 after January 1, 2024, are eligible to participate at the 12U level.

Coaches:  TBA

Dates:  Mondays – Late May through mid-July.

Times:  TBA

Location:  Practices at Kost Field (Turf), games in Casselton and at a variety of rural sites.

Equipment:  All players need their own gloves.  Rubber-spiked athletic shoes are recommended.

Fee:  $85

14 & Under Softball

Our 14U fastpitch team will compete in the West Fargo summer league in 2024.

Practices will begin in late May and games will begin in early June.  14U games will be played at the Mickelson Field complex in north Fargo, with selected games in Casselton.

Players who turn 15 years of age after January 1, 2024, are eligible to play 14U softball.

Coaches:  TBA

Practices:  Kost Field (Turf)

Games: Wednesdays in Casselton and a variety of F-M sites

Equipment:  Players need a glove and rubber or metal-spiked athletic shoes.

Fee:  $125

18 & Under Softball

Our 18U fastpitch team will also compete in the West Fargo summer league.  Practices will be held in Casselton and games will be played on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  Scheduling information will be available at a later date.

Players who turn 19 after January 1, 2024, are eligible to participate at the 18U level.

Dates:  Early June through mid-July.

Equipment:  Players need a glove and rubber or metal-spiked athletic shoes.
