Vandalism Costs Parks $6,000 The Casselton Park District will spend more than $6,000 on repairs and replacement items necessitated by the criminal vandalism committed over the past year on park property. A number of items were damaged or destroyed in the spring and summer months of 2008. The two flagpoles installed near the concession stand and the park's main shelter were broken. Replacing them will run $800 to $1,000. Vandals broke into the concession stand itself on three separate occasions and damaged the doors and the building's interior. Park personnel hauled picnic tables out of the Casselton Reservoir twice and a set of bleachers out of the water once. In addition, four of the nine disc golf baskets were damaged. Casselton's forestry department reported damage to more than 20 trees over the past year. Removing the damaged trees and replacing them will cost the forestry and parks departments more than $2,000. Parks Restroom Facilities Closed for the 2008 Season All restroom facilities at Tinta Tawa Park are now closed for the season. The doors on restroom buildings are boarded shut to help us keep vandals from damaging park property in the late fall and winter. The parks and recreation department will once again try to keep Tinta Tawa's walking paths clear during the winter so that walkers, joggers and others who want to enjoy the park can do so. |
